a lot of inigo vontier s early material was confined to the digital realm, but now the mexican dj and producer is starting to get recognition on wax for his heady brew of old methods and a taste for the freakier end of the party spectrum. this 12- for mexican label calypso leads in with the strangely unsettling but strident -wirikuta,- before the snappy surge of tightly wound tech variation -marakame- comes leaping into ear shot. -maxa- marks out its own unique space with a heavy broken beat excursion, leaving it to dreems to ruminate on -wirikuta- for a closing remix.

jono ma (of jagwar ma) and angus gruzman (of dreems, die orangen) present “the dreemas”. recorded between their studios in industrial north london and the rogue outskirts of berlin, the dreemas is an electronic cryogenic stasis of two life-long friends in varying states of crisis, conversion and transcendence in the year 2017. two minds and hearts coalesced into an ocean of sound, the groundwork formed with over a decade of instinctive studio sessions, sweat-riddled dj conferences, and shoulder-to-shoulder dance dos in clubs, pubs and dusty down under doofs. they’ve spent endless hours together at the bottom of salty oceans gazing up at alien aquatic life forms. for years they’ve shared synthesisers across continents, exchanged records, lived together, flown together and bleed together. and at long last they have signed a contract that says they will “techno together”. the past presents the future, and the future presents the past on this soul-state snapshot of 2 friends encapsulated in the epoch of a 12”.

multi culti is honoured to reissue this 1996 classic by ghanian highlife legend gyedu blay ambolley, adding amazing remixes by red axes and johnny aux, as well as an in-house edit by dreems & thomas von party. a major force in afro-funk since the early 1970s, gyedu blay ambolley is considered the godfather of hiplife, transforming the highlife genre by adding elements of hip-hop, funk and jazz. the opportunity to reissue the amazing and influential simi rapp is one of the clear high points of the label s trajectory thus far. the reissue package is bolstered by an ecstatic rework by israeli gurus red axes, an early-morning anthem from master remixer johnny aux, and a laid-back house edit from multi culti executive shamans dreems and thomas von party. multi culti: voyaging through time, space and licensing agreements to bring you the best music the world has to offer

umeko ando (1932-2004) was a folk singer from japan. she was a representative of the ainu culture on the hokkaido island in the north of japan. “ihunke” is her first album which was recorded with the ainu musician and dub producer oki kano in 2000. it was released on cd in japan only and is finally available on vinyl (2lp + linernotes, dl included). “ihunke” is following last year’s single “iuta upopo” pingipung 58, incl. m.rux remix which had been received with overwhelming enthusiasm and was quickly sold out. the 16 ainu songs on “ihunke” are delicate, natural gems. they are built on oki kano’s tonkori patterns (a 5-string harp), over which umeko ando develops her repetitive, mantric vocals, often in a call-response manner. oki kano is one of very few professional tonkori players who performs worldwide with his oki dub ainu band. the songs possess a mystical energy – when crows call accurately with ando’s brittle voice in the first song, it seems like natural powers join in with her music. her voice sounds like animals of the sky and the forest. oki kano: “it was a lot of fun to record with umeko ando. many ainu hesitate to break from tradition - if umeko hadn’t been so flexible to work with the younger generation and recording technology, this album would never have happened. our sessions were intense, and we were proud and happy about making such beautiful music.” upcoming in autumn: remixes of “ihunke” by tolouse lowtrax, m.rux, dj ground, el buho mark peters, gama, andi otto, and dreems. historical background: only recently (in 2008) have the ainu officially been acknowledged as indigenous people who are culturally independent from japan. this record is an example of how their music has been passed on through generations in the underground ainu communities while it was oppressed by the japanese hegemony. it deserves a huge audience. follow kompakt

exactly one year after their sold-out debut album zest, die orangen (aka dreems & kris baha) are zurück! malka tuti and die orangen have concocted a double dish, a two part remix package, saft 1 & saft 2. the first part consists of a new live version of the track yaranabe, recorded in a live session as part of the duo’s infamous analogue live act. a2 is tapan’s remix of metal man. the poem-not-poem is taking shape as a low bpm banger when tapan’s heavy signature kick meets those trippy vocals. this is tapan’s first track to be made after finishing their debut album last year on mt, and its an interesting evolution of their sound, slow dark and punchy, yet with these vocals and bassline, also a catchy post-pop track for the later hours. on the b-side lies gordon pohl’s reimagination of mersey river (aka “the platypus track”). the tracks “epic-, long slow ambient opening and evolution into rhythm resembles in many ways the psychedelic collaboration works of the late pete namlook & move d on namlooks own fax records, which was always a significant influence on the malka tuti world.

after the world applauded sascha funke for his latest album lotos land, he gave away some tunes to friends for remix duties. düsseldorf based tolouse low trax formed twirl into a foggy dark mpc-seducer for romantic nighthawks that love dancing. also australian boy dreems prepared a remix that grooves odd and uncommon. his percussive version of im feiern und feuer is a slow whirlwind, perfect to start and end a great dj night. with tuff city kids a duo formed a remix that is good for big room love affairs. their version of purple hill is a heartfelt melange between trance and house deepness that works on any dance floor. the final edit comes from glasgows junto club, who transformed comola, a tune that they already produced originally with sascha funke, into a longing dark melodic synth stepper. four versions, four hits, four atmospheric dimensions beyond words. tune it loud!

multi culti s lucid-lifestyle dreamer peter power takes us on a free-wheeling trip to the motherland on afro damba. the irish-born voodoohop resident has returned from the jungles of bahia with a fresh ep of primal party tracks sampling voices and rhythms from across africa and it s neighbouring islands, producing what is easily his most club-oriented work to date. whereas his tracks for voodoohop were spiritual flute-heart-openers, these are neo-pagan mating-ritual floor-fillers. the rhythm is set to tribal chug, with rollicking percussion, reverb-soaked vocals, and all the fun jangly bells & bits you expect to be hanging off such a well-traveled producer. if that weren t enough, we enlisted romanian-dance-duo khidja to rework adama waro resident mix-lord dreems also weighs in with a subtle remix of dansakoni, gently upping the tempo and tweaking the knobs in selfless service of the original groove.
