jacksonville (leeds u.k) releases his first original track for thug records. the release also coincides with the launch of our vinyl arm and marks a new direction and ethos for thug records. after being heavily inspired by a 4 month trip to berlin in late 2009 and by a number of fantastic labels and artists in the u.s.a, we have decided to make shift back to a more organic platform. to quote levon vincent, the medium is the message. now for the tracks, dusk is a deep, bumping techno gem that grinds and pulsates with smatterings of acid, drum hooks and creepy vocal stabs.
on the remix front, one of our all time favourite producers, abe duque (nyc), does what he does best and turns out an incredibly twisted dance floor beast. both tracks here bring the noise. hope you enjoy...

hello and welcome to the new decade. we are kicking off the 10s with a smash from the 00s - as a hinge between the decades, so to say. adas >lovestoned< was everybodys favourite track from her fabulous >adaptations< album, a milestone of romatic techno with vocal support by raz o hara. one of this songs biggest admirers is president bongo of gusgus fame. together with jack shidt he forms the dynamic duo gluteus maximus which already caused a stir with their amazing remix for sigur ros >gobbledigook< on kompakt pop. their lovestoned remix is astounding, too. sex, modern, efficient without losing one gramm of soul. the flipside is taken care of gui boratto who is never far away when techno meets pop in such a sensitive way. his remix makes all great things from the original a bit greater and its pushing the romance factor to the max.
great job, comme d habitude!

after a brief hiatus, we return with a delicate slice of wax that epitomises what ldr stands for ? new, original music from hardworking, young artists. after the success of datas >blowpipe< on ld5 and a string of genre-busting releases on labels like metalheadz, critical, revolution and tempa, data brings us a grimy gem in the form of >liberty city blues<. incident from hungary and paul sg from austria blew us away with this track which featured on our recent knowledge magazine cover cd mix.
>liberty city blues< is a minimalistic piece of jungle music reminiscent of early photek or source direct. from the outset the tune just bubbles with menace and keeps on building and evolving throughout. a pure bass-heavy slice of proper jungle.
>autumn drops< is a soulful roller that shows that this crew are ones to watch in 2010. full of melancholy, icy vibes and a subtle basslinethat gets right under your skin, this track is a firm favourite for this year.

hive audio is here – a brand new label, run by the makers of the infamous hive club, located in the the industrial quarter of zurich. the imprint was founded by samuel gmur and adrian wöllhaf, better known as animal trainer with some great releasing on oliver koletzkis stil vor talent, amongst others. zurich is not only party capital of beautiful switzerland, it is more and more becoming a habitat for talented and creative music producers and djs, who will now get a new international platform. releases will be held mainly by residents of the hive club itself – benja will be given the honour to start off with his track paradose. >paradose< impresses with a funky percussion loop, ultra-brief chords and scantily applied vocal snippets. benja keeps it dust-dry, leaving out every kind of frippery and lifting the track to a real &#64258,,oor-&#64257,,ller without any razzmatazz needed. on the &#64258,,ip we have a remix by christian burkhardt, who needs no further introduction. he turns the number into a real techno loop monster, which will catch you within a few beats, and then wont let loose again. hypnotic and twinkle-toed at the same time, his remix easily will suit any after hour or peaktime set to the same degree. christian burkhardt himself is also one of our favourite guests in the club. this is why, of course, we are double happy to welcome a hive club resident on our hive audio 001.

this time around, its with his favourite housemate and sidekick - sergio santos - that tanner ross teams up. the duo creates two eye-opening tracks, that leave the expert-listener in fascination. dont be scared for not being able to identify this to any previous style...

2002 classic by yann fontaine (ovum. low pressings) with a deep, deep rerub from west caost favourite lance desardi (seasons). in a very metro area vibe, lance takes the dubby tech original into a smoked out trip of new wave keys and mininimal drums, that morgan geist would sweat on. the flip heads into rob paine world, with a low rumbling bassline and rasta fills. a litle more reserved than yanns normal tech housers, this is a cool track that could easily be on bluem or environ.

a classically-trained jazz virtuoso and national rock n roll hero in argentina, gutis double 12inch pack for desolat will leave you in no doubt of his ability to twist a snaking groove into something echoingly hypnotic. the tracks contained here are already a favourite in the record boxes of artists like loco dice, carl cox and marco carola, while gutis life story could itself be the subject of a story by jorge luis borges: >i leave to several futures (not to all) my garden of forking paths<. just two years after his first live sets in europe, desolat is proud to present gutis las cosas que no se tocan. the beats follow guti across continents: mr good vibes was composed in a hotel room in stuttgart after an argument with a friend, while the serious dancefloor vibes of sasa, the hustler and ieuuu were channelled in martinez studio. ieuuu and the hustler feature slices of glamorous, haunting vocals by jayson walker, a british singer that guti discovered on myspace. and sasa boasts gutis own vocal touches. meanwhile, the track aguanile is inspired by one of his favourite melodies as a child, one that he’s collected many versions of. the last track on the release, el campeon, reaches a bittersweet ending in the wide open space between percussive trills and a cut-out refrain, inspired by gutis favourite latin storylines of broken hearts and pain.

a sick collection of secret armand van helden cut and paste 80s tracks. lots of nu wave stuff going on with big euro samples getting van heldens midas touch. twins of pleasure is the favourite cut, with its pulsing retro bassline line and banging drums. the hilarous ktu track is another goody that wrecks a freestyle sample with ny radio station ktu ids on it. with all the current interest in the 80s, this is a really fun take on the idea.

>minimal is cool but in the long term a bit too unsexy!< this statement of marcel knopf that is by now quite old, shows his heart does not beat for one genre after all. after the first and more technoid single release from his album >dusty dance< monsieur knopf satisfies his longing for real house with single no.2 >crazy about<. r&b singer camaras soulful voice leaves quite an impression on this powerful beat. in >skinny bitches< marcel knopf processes insane nights: you just want to drink a beer in your favourite pub but then you meet a couple of friends and they take you to the worst disco in town. this high-energy track is uncompromising and must be played during peak time and not during warm-up sets or after-hours.

nice price deal !!! the latest new comers from barcelona are sw eden born pow erduo of marco gegenheimer and jens rosengren aka gegenheimer & jenius. both of them are active in the spanish house scene and have been creating a havoc w ith their record label collective ourvision w hich released the excellent archimboldo from fellow sw ede axel boman. the tracks they offered to moodmusic have a simple message of floor dominance w ith musical values and they?ve proven to w ork fairly w ell on recent moodmusic nights at panorama bar and sonar. starting w ith basic shape, a tech-housey, almost early techno feel takes over w ith phasing keys and dry drumprogramming w ith a big break w ith lends a few notes from detroit city. cadaquÚs has a more house feel to it, still keeps the groove as main point w ith stabbing keys and a beautiful theme taking you on a trip to almost mr fingers territory. the closing track ips has been a sureshot favourite at the moodmusic hq since w e got it, a classic deep house track of pure quality w hich show s the musical roots of these talented producers. watch out

having become a firm favourite of some of the best djs on the planet, delusions makes a welcome return with dog05 from the mighty 6th borough project. these guys can seemingly do no wrong at the moment putting out huge release after huge release on their instruments of rapture label as well as numerous remixes, edits and original productions on the likes of jisco music, phonica, deep freeze and delusions. how can i show you is a masterclass in slo-mo looped up deep disco house that will appeal to fans of mark e and of course the revenge. a hypnotic and grinding groove is what this little number is all about so play it loud and keep it slow. on the flip side we have soultourist (from our fave house label drumpoet) remixing miss world into a deep and driving filtered throbber with all the warmth and soul youd expect from these swiss master craftsmen. on aa2 youll find the ooft! remix of miss world going in a slightly darker, electronic direction introducing dubbed out synth stabs and a subsonic bottom end thatll warm your cockles

this is the second album by sven schienhammer aka quantec on echocord. after releasing several 12 inch on labels like styrax leaves, meanwhile, snapshot and echocord sven is back with another fulllenght album. this album contains older tracks from the year 2001 and some of his newer works from 2009. on this album you will hear many of svens personal favourite tracks and echocord are really proud to release it. its not really the typical quantec sound, its absolutely different to his last album on echocord, some of the tracks with vocals, but you can still hear the quality quantec sound.

jesper dahlback is one of swedens leading djs/ producers with a lengthy back catalogue to his name, including co-production on two tiga albums, the hugg and pepp project with cousin john dahlback, and remixes for the likes of rex the dog, zoo brazil, arnaud rebotini of black strobe, thomas p heckman, robyn, the knife, and depeche mode. jesper has music in his genes, but it was the musical movements in detroit, berlin and london that inspired him to start producing techno, back in 1991 in his bedroom studio. completely hooked, by 1993 he d formed the stockholm-based globe studios together with peter benisch and adam beyer (following a chance meeting on the train to love parade?) and has worked there ever since. in 1996 jesper started the imprint, blank, mainly for his own material, and simultaneously launched joint venture dk with thomas krome - one of the first labels in sweden with a techno house crossover approach! in addition to making music for various techno labels around the world and working with planet rhythm, jesper met up with swiss-born stephan grieder who had just started the svek label. the duo started to experiment with different sounds, drawing on house musics roots, utilising vocals and acoustic instruments. jesper now describes his sound as >ranging between the analogue sounds of the roland sh101 and the precision mathematics of my computer. i m a researcher and developer of unheard sounds! since the founding of globe studios, i have always been looking for new ways to bend the rules and test the unknown. when i dj, i just play my own productions blending old classics with new unreleased demos.< a producer first and foremost, jespers dj dates find him weaving a soundscape of his productions, remixes and collaborations with new material at every gig, as well as musical elements and sounds worked through the set. one of his favourite current ventures is his part in jori hulkkonens acid symphony orchestra.

after almost a year hiatus the detroit grand pubahs are back with their detelefunk label. detelefunk being an abbreviation for detroit (det) electronic (ele) funk, they relaunch their imprint with a remixes series of some of their favourite producers remixing tracks from their last 3 albums. hence the title of the series being made up of words from all these album giving us the funtastic “buttfunkula and the remixes from earth”. this is the first of 2 volumes / eps that will offer new remixes, leading into a remix compilation featuring the finest remixes of the pubahs music from over the years. volume 1 sees the minimal originator himself, robert hood, take the reigns and remix the title track from the pubahs debut album >funk all y all<, while detroits underground resistance / interstellar fugitives dj 3000 takes one of paris the black fus first tracks >stalking you< (previously released on throw) and adds his albanian rhythms. finally, last but by no means least swedens samuel l session takes time out from producing for his own klap klap label to deliver this peak time dancefloor remix of the infamous >dr bootygrabber<. promising to take robert hood, dj 3000 and samuel l sessions on a galactic ass trip in their star ship was paris the black fu & the mysterious mr os way of getting them to do remixes. >now all i have to do is get them to deliver< comments paris from his secret lab >i do plan to bring them home after the remixes have been released. working with these artists has been a goal of ours for the past few years, and now that they ve been abducted may the funk be with all of us<

autodiscotheque return with a mighty release by one of their favourite maverick producers and djs danny berman. with releases on tirk, untracked, deep freeze and society, danny has made a big impression with his mixed up approach to production and djing. from the wonky house of the hot coins material released on tirk, to the more classically detroit outings under his red rackem moniker, danny is a music lover with an ear for the not so obvious and the left of centre musical territory.on this release which features both his musical personas simultaneously, the idea was to truly represent the difference between the red rackem and hot coins sounds on a single release, and to recreate an intense peak time feeling, but to do it from these two completely different scenes.place for me is detroit inspired heads down, cut up motown soul business, which pays homage to one of dannys favourite producers moodymann, and fits perfectly into that crossover space between slo-mo house and disco. chinese electro on the flip however, references that authentic early 80s new wave electro sound, and is influenced by yellow magic orchestra and recordings from new wave radio shows like belgiums liaison dangereuses

redux hit their 9th release with the second offering from the very talented musician/ songwriter known simply as fernando. first appearing on the label with his solid cover of kick in the eye by legendary goth rockers bauhaus. fernando gained instant support from many djs and tastemakers, showing the world that he got the full package when it comes to being a talented recording artist .now hes back again to unleash the first of his original solo material from his forthcoming debut album, guaranteed to be a firm favourite with disco stallions , pump rockers and bearded ladies. scarecrows kicks the e.p off , setting the tone immediately with a rock steady bass groove , crisp synth stabs and catchy vocal snippets (from another famous goth influence) sprinkled on top that will stick in your head for days .bladerunner ups the energy a notch with some lively drums and a beefy bassline sure to shake any waistline (one size fits all). weird trippy textures and surging synth sounds keep it moving and occupy your brain whilst the groove kidnaps your feet and hips on the dancefloor.on remix duty is croatia s leading light and all round nice guy ilija rudiman. taking a slightly different approach for scarecrows, giving the track a deeper, moody feeling but still keeping the essence of the original. subtle pads and acid lines weave in and out as the groove pushes on and draws you closer in, dropping in to the break down and sending you off singing doop doop doop do do. this 12inch clearly showcases some of the freshest talent thats coming through the ranks and will instantly appeal to fans of reverso 68, tensnake and emperor machine to name a few strong examples. if youre feeling this then be sure to keep an eye/ear out for fernandos debut album coming soon on reduxà. this is just a taster

>i m that alley< is the new single from south african shock-poppers sweat.x. it comes as they embark on their two month european tour and is a taste of their forthcoming album >187<. >i m that alley< is a departure from vocalist spoek mathambos hyper-surreal rap style, and, together with markus wormstorms finely designed production, is a modern take on the classic synthpop love song. accompanying the title track is >the knife<, a freaked peek into the world of sweat.x, a favourite of their live shows, it finally gets released here. third track on the single is a remix of >i m that alley< by new york-based mike slott. slott has been making waves with his work as one half of heralds of change and this remix is his best work to date and is already being used to close out his live set. the release also includes instrumental versions of >the knife< and >i m that alley< for maximum club efficiency!

taken from the pagliaccio album on moodmusic, filippo moscatello gets the remix treatment from his favourite house heads in the circuit.. quarion rocks houz into a frenzy of stabbing, jacking and deep bass for the full flavoured floor experience, indeed one of his best remixed to date and thats saying something. dirt crew hooligan and old school house head on his own, james flavour takes kleinmond on a trip to nyc about 1993 and slabs phat beats coupled with his trademark stabby keys and the one-note bassline to a late night belter. last but not least trickski shows their genuine talent in transforming houz to a peak-hour sub-120 groover, with live piano and a great chicago inspired groove that makes you yearn for more

arrestar, hailing from brussels, is the second belgian artist releasing on token. he sent me this killer idm/techno track some time ago and it was immediately a favourite of mine. i fell in love with it the moment i heard it. in the end, it just needed a release. im not the only supporter of this track: inigo kennedy, oscar mulero & grovskopa love it too, so they decided to contribute with each another interpretation of the track, which in the end results in a diverse package.

>second cut< has been a firm favourite of randalls 4 some time, with the likes of friction through to flight supporting, half stepping beats & heavy sub in amits unique style make it both a floor & radio delight. >immigrants< is cool, too!

thanks to the blinding fabric live mix and a series of highly entertaining interviews the demand for new omar-s product is now at an all time high. hes on top form here with three fresh cuts representing his sound to the fullest. opening track flying blind is a must have for fans of the deeper omar s tracks like psychotic photosynthesis. following that up is still serious nic which is probably my favourite track on the record, its got that heavily monged out raw omar-s machine vibe to it. things straighten out a bit on the b-side thanks to the smoothed out vocal house of left him up. then it finishes off with the deep house of flying gorgars. once again omar-s proves hes too steps ahead of the deep house pack. essential

everyone s favourite french mpc don fulgeance steps up for his one-handed music debut with a heavyweight set aimed squarely at the dancefloor! fresh from his success on musique large with his low club styles, fulgeance steps out of the beats scene to bring us the bangers. detroit electro wunderkind jimmy edgar is on remix duties with a mesmerising 4am stepper, deeply trippy and all the better for it.

own baby from french dj and producer master h who decieded a few month back to launch his own imprint on the back of his success releases on labels such as soma, f.com! or vega records... so here are for the first time on vinyl all 3 first releases, at the same time as the very new 4th one. francois dubois, is the alter ego of lars sandberg, also known as funk d void. a massive dj favourite and another member of the soma family. the duo are a match made in heaven. combining their techno talents, the pair have crafted wonderful productions. h delivers the sounds of old school detroit and chicago, woven together by the fantastic vocal of yuanist woods. this will find fans from the soulful and techno scenes and everyone between!

after a winter break and a with new focus on original and forward thinking house, boe is back for 2009 with one of the hottest detroit artists to break onto the scene in years. kris wadsworth is a man who truly has his own unique production style. for years the term minimal has been banded about for music with little soul, originality and that essence of dance music, a groove. kris is a guy whose interpretation of minimalistic music oozes all of these qualities and much, much more, stripped down, funked up house that takes the listener back to when house was raw, full of energy and brimming with soul. his production resembles that of an early herbert, crunching and twisting his way though drum samples and polished chords to create a sound that is simple and intoxicating yet difficult to copy. less, it seems, is most definitely more. dig is kris first four-track ep and showcases his sound through four slices of deep, groovy late night house. the first track the depths of is kris sound summed up in just under nine minutes. the first three minutes belong to a long intro that builds and builds through vox snippets, stab samples, synth chords and h-hats that ride the groove. the track breaks down only to kick back in with a chunky snare and trippy pads to whip the listener into a frenzy. macrotones is a wonky late night rhythm synth track that wouldnt sound out of place at fabric at 7am. on the flip, white bread kicks off where the depths of left off, a catchy rhythm with swinging stabs and moody chords. a growling, gut-moving baseline makes the track a real dance floor favourite. the final track on the ep is haunted house a deep houser with a delayed bassline perfect for those late-night moments.

fritto morto 003 sees gatto frittos invisible college getting a timely re release. originally out on dissident, invisible college has been a big record for beardos from hoxton to hawaii. it became a firm favourite at londons disco bloodbath and cosmic truth nights aswell as across the pond at harveys sarcastic parties. a long acoustic guitar driven balearic trip propelled by synth bass, disco toms, clavinet and fender rhodes with a summery disposition. the b side your dreams are my nightmares is 9 minutes of highlife guitars squalling 101s, backwards vocals and white noise snares with a pure pop number buried underneath...the sort of thing paul simon and doris norton might have made if they had been sectioned and were in a music therapy group together.

for the 50th release on gamm we just had to give you a big one! mad mats reworks two of his all time favourite tracks...can it get better? both joints were huge at this years wmc conference with peeps like timmy regisford and dj spinna blasting the tracks...nuff said!

the third 12 inch in this essential edit series sees greg wilson reference his past as a disco dj in the late 70s and, subsequently, electro-funk pioneer of the early 80s. going way back to his golden guinea days, ruff wrap revitalizes a hidden gem from 1977 by lady love. this version of casey & finchs infectious miami groover, wrap your arms around me, was a record that, although never issued in the uk, was a particular club favourite on merseyside - its local popularity very much down to one of wilsons influences, terry lennaine, who championed the track on his weekly specialist soul show, keep on truckin. moving on 6 years to 1983, ruff rapp re-arranges the seminal west coast rap cut bad times (i cant stand it) by captain rapp, which was a monster tune on the black scene during the electro-funk era, having initially featured at wilsons club nights back then, legend and the hacienda in manchester, plus wigan pier. focusing on the social problems of the time, the subject matter of the lyric certainly translates to the current credit crunch climate. the crew behind >bad times< included jam & lewis and rich cason, whilst kimberly balls excellent vocal sets the whole thing off
