stefan schutz aka juno6 belongs to the society of the leipzig new school, which for the last 5 years has cut a path through emotions and change in diverse regions. his particular real estate is comfortably between deeper house and thoroughly scrutinized techno. sometimes he tends in one direction, at other times the opposite. all the while juno6 captivates both listeners and dancers alike with something new. his live sets are always an occasion – sound expeditions in the most literal sense embedded powerfully, yet imminently fresh as they are bound to tradition. he even dials up the the ambient/electronic field with project beautiful planet earth, or together with friend daniel stefanik as sensual. the sonic awareness of juno6 is expressed consistently as a potent degree of warmth, which paints a distinct lively and long-lasting tone on club music. the tone is hardly useful as a flavor of the month, but rather, a music with stamina and character. his track >guununk< is for more than a few the quiescent highlight of the fat 5zig compilation. on his second from fat, he displays the juno6 portfolio fully and expands his present effect with a portion of funkiness and a sprinkle of pop – at least on one of the cuts. with clever vocals mr. schulz informs us yet again.

sebastian lutz has accrued a huge fan base amongst the crème de la creme: after releases on do easy records, bcb techno, suchtreflex and boug.records, he has won huge support from the likes of carl craig, dubfire, loco dice, karotte and laurent garnier. his track >i m tellin u< has also been chosen by baba sven väth for cocoons >sound of the 10th season< ibiza mix compilation.
now he is hitting up paso music with another dance-floor rocker entitled >the alchemist<. a tune that has already seen chart action from tiefschwarz some months before the official release date. we can expect big things from this track!

after the success of their first release, dsc – far reaching/too hard, holding hands is back with their sophomore outing and as before it is taking no prisoners. inspired by a nicolas lutz set as he warmed up fabric for villalobos a couple years back, the furnace has a break beat that will push the subs of any club to the limit. with every build and drop it increases in momentum until you are left with no choice but to throw down on the dance floor with unbridled passion. the furnace may be all about the big beat but it is no one trick pony. the tune has a depth and weirdness to it that will certainly keep you coming back for more… the sorcerer is a collaboration with good friend of dsc’s, guava. it is made up largely of recorded percussion and vocals at dsc’s studio in south london, which gives it a very special swing on the dance floor. the track lulls you into a false sense of security for the first third before finally letting the big freakiness out of the box. this is one for any dj that wants to leave clubbers going nuts and scratching their heads at the same time. both tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. they want big sound systems and dark rooms. close your eyes, hold hands and experience transcendental space flight…

new imprint ocd’s first release comes from portland native aaron carlson who, with his ac$ alias, has generated quite a buzz in underground circles of late, off the back of a few highly sought-after records. ‘do u know what u represent?’ is a slice of rolling tech-house that utilises vocal snippets amidst a flurry of 909 hats while the rhodes-laced ’more odds’ dials up the swing with a nod to early prescription releases. on the b side, ‘just like you’ is a more heady affair, seeing lazy chords sitting over a nebulous bassline and assorted weirdness, while the acid-tinged, atmospheric ‘organ morph’ is sure to find favour with fans of binh or nicolas lutz.

new band name, new lp, the former max graef band toured and worked on new music all year. musical progress, and the impression of not enough edge and rawness in a lot of recent music, inspired and motivated a majority of the recording. the band has grown as a unit and wrote a lot of material together this year in late night sessions. during 2 weeks of recording the new songs in the studio the goal was to try all sorts of instruments, amps and effects and be open to any combination of sounds. furthermore, they and engineer lutz fahrenkrog-petersen tried to capture and maintain the raw feeling of the live recordings using almost exclusively analog pedals and racks as well as keeping the editing of the recordings to a minimum. although bands like et cetera (wolfgang dauner), embryo or xhol have heavily infuenced max graef and his band, the result turned out very original ranging from distorted jazz-rock to experimental soul, electronic percussion workouts to free sound experiments and psychedelic rock. with some tracks being around 14 minutes long, it is better to let the music speak for itself though.

belle alliance is the second studio album by german electronic music group ashra, released in 1980. it is the follow up to correlations from 1979 with the same band members: manuel göttsching (guitar, synthesizer, sequencer) , lutz ulbrich (guitar, synthesizer, piano, mellotron) , harald grosskopf (drums, percussion, synthesizer). the two albums released before under the name of ashra: new age of earth and blackouts (released under the name) had actually been manuel göttsching’s solo albums.
