earlier this year, an email dropped into the claremont 56 inbox. it was from a producer in the early stages of his musical career called simon peter, and contained a joyous slice of languid, organic balearica entitled ‘arc of lark’. suitably impressed, claremont 56 boss paul murphy had no hesitation in snapping up the track right away.

in anticipation of this all-new creolian odyssey, strut unleash the opening single, i do believe, a trippy disco stream of consciousness straight from the mind of darnell touching on greek mythology and other fantastical snapshots. alongside the original album with its unmistakeable double harmonies and infectious slap bass groove, the 12 inch features some mouth-watering mixes: brennan green draws on some todd terry techniques for a hypnotic dub, san francisco dj collective 40 thieves (responsible for dance anthem >dont turn it off< on permanent vacation) take the track into chugging electro funk territory, and nu disco pioneers faze action deliver a smacking 4x4 version with an anthemic piano line. the digital release features extra tracks - the faze action dub and the original radio edit of the track co-produced by august darnell and andy butler (of hercules & love affair) and mixed by brennan green.

the 40 thieves turn up in lengs back garden for a bit of late night skulduggery. kicking off side-a with >backward love<, a deep wobble of dub guitars, weird out fx, large 80s synth lines and lovely throbbing bass, more than enough to get people freaky. on side-b, >crystal mountain thunder< has a genius intro of ambient electronic atmosphere, which gives way to another slug of late-night dub wonkiness, with massive guitars and a hefty drumkit. as expected, a meaty joint of late night disco, for the murkier end of the dance-floor. we hear an album is coming up and if it matches the quality of this release then weve got a veritable treat on its way. check!
