for the second release piramide landed with a va mini compilation including the debut of the mysterious hawaiian chips. xinner opens the scene with a mind-blowing synth journey that makes you lose concept of space and time. autre follows and hooks you up with a hypnotic house beat bringing you in a dance floor dreamy mood. finally hawaiian chips brings you back in the golden age with a proper electro banger made as your favourite 90s idol would have done it. to conclude xinner does the honour and closes the ep with two must have dance floor filler.

following a string of remixes throughout 2016, and one of her busiest summers on the road, cassy is rounding off the year on a high. enter ‘kwench records’, a collaborative imprint she has created to represent honest and upfront house music. the remit is simple, on each release two or more artists will collaborate on ep original material, with a different artist joining the package on remix duty. they must not be afraid to experiment, nor do what comes naturally to them. and above all, trust in themselves and their instincts. this is something cassy has proudly learned to master over her dj career, and she now wishes to put out records in a creative space that encourages this approach. for the first release, cassy has called in one of her favourite house music producers, canada based demuir, to collaborate with her. demuir’s ‘derrick does disco’ ep which came out on great lakes audio in 2016 was a favorite in cassy’s sets throughout that year, even making it onto her mixmag presents cd ‘let’s talk about donna’, which accompanied her cover in june. there are three original cuts on the package, and as a special treat for the first release, cassy is holding back the incredible remix package until later this year.

rekids celebrates 10 years of radio slave’s ‘grindhouse’ with remixes from len faki, slam, obscure shape & shdw, vatican shadow, markus suckut, lady starlight and special request. first appearing on a release as part of radio slave’s iconic ‘no sleep’ series, ‘grindhouse’ spawned multiple remixes from the likes of dubfire, danton eeprom, terrance fixmer and nic fanciulli to become one of the biggest techno records since its original release. to commemorate this fact, len faki has produced two different reinterpretations in the first of four heavyweight remix packages.
“i didn’t plan to go back to grindhouse. it’s a monster of a record and undoubtedly the biggest release we’ve had on the label, but after 10 years it seems right to revisit the track and also add some new versions from some of my favourite techno producers.- – radio slave with danton eeprom’s vocal resonating throughout, faki’s first remix features crunchy snares, ominous chords and shuffling effects before piercing synths come into effect in the latter half. meanwhile, the second version rumbles forward with its undulating bassline, soaring atmospherics and echoing elements to round up two solid productions exemplary of the figure founder’s seasoned abilities in the studio.

the must have status of joey negros -remixed with love series has been firmly cemented with both dj and home listening disco lovers since the release of the first two volumes. since the last release jn has been working hard on sourcing more disco multitrack tapes and producing new remixes while the zr team have been equally dedicated to clearing and licensing these new versions. the enduringly popular mtume/lucas produced phyllis hyman soul classic you know how to love me gets a new makeover that reworks the original elements into a more dramatic version with many peaks and troughs, stretching it out to over 10 minutes. even for those love the original this new mix gives a favourite song a fresh new perspective and reason to be played again. motown sounds philly style instrumental bad mouthin was an underground hit on dance floors in new york, london and chicago from the late 70s onwards. it was also famously sampled in bob sinclar s no 1 gym tonic. the original is a pretty dense, everything in all the way through style production, whereas the jn mix opens things up in a bit with more room for the individual parts to be heard. the end result is an extremely energetic bassline driven disco cut that works super well on the dancefloor.

the third instalment of our amenizer series continues in the same vein as the previous two, with a generous serving of every junglist’s favourite breakbeat, on a no frills white label vinyl, with an undercover artist providing the ammunition. jedi hi-fi is an alias of one of our core foundation x family members, and if you listen keenly it shouldn’t be too hard to work out who is responsible for these four cuts, with a trademark jungle sound which is heavily influenced by 80 s jamaican dancehall sound systems and 70 s dub production..... reggae reggae sauce – as the vocal says “serious damage” and that’s what this track will do no questions asked..... sound check 1 – dubwise from start to finish, the signature sounds ofjedi hi-fi are evident throughout from the top to the very last drop. sound check 2 – jazzy intro vibes soon give way to a head nod amen patternand creation discoteq vocal samples bounce in between the beats and bass. problems – the final track of the ep sees some expert echo chamber work.

drumcode continues its commitment to releasing the scene s most cutting-edge techno. with releases this year already from adam beyer, pig&dan, alan fitzpatrick, dense & pika and julian jeweil, this july sees the return of enrico sangiuliano with astral projection. after his remix of mobys of why does my heart feel so bad back in november last year, enrico sought creative inspiration from his travels, transcending that into his productions and long studio sessions during the winter months. the result brings a mind and body melting release from the italian producer. the title track astral projection is a captivating, big room techno masterpiece. deep reverberations punch alongside a sinisterly crisp percussive drive. launching into a groove laden synth modulation of low end textures, it breaks down into an ethereal amalgamation of pads and synths before the vocal launches, taking this track to another level. ‘blooming era has destructive dancefloor intent. there is no holding back with the low end synth modulation which enrico has mastered to perfection. a tightly woven percussive flare moulds flawlessly with the rolling oscillations of the beast of this track. if you have seen label head honcho adam beyer playing anywhere on the globe in the last 5 months, this has been a peak time favourite. road-tested to the max, and with much success.

roots vocalist barry brown has an inimitable style that has long made him a favourite of reggae enthusiasts. drawing from the popular phrasing of horace andy, but morphing it into his own delivery through the kind of wordless slurring that occasionally resembles the sound of a quacking duck, brown found his way into the jamaican music scene through the many amateur west kingston talent contests of the early 1970s, along with fellow aspiring talents such as johnnie clarke, sugar minott and the african brothers, and the mighty diamonds. he also honed his vocal skills on local west kingston sound systems such as tape tone, together with other young dancehall-oriented youth such as barrington levy, sammy dread, roy taylor and tristan palmer. there are still conflicting claims as to who was the first to record brown, with production veteran bunny ‘striker’ lee and sugar minott among the contenders, but in any case, during the late 1970s and early 1980s, he produced a range of captivating work for various producers, much of which is rightly coveted today. ‘ital rock’ appeared on barry’s 1983 lp i’m still waiting, issued by rocktone international, a spin-off of sugar minott’s black roots outfit, based in queens, new york (with a further branch in toronto), the b-side has dean fraser’s previously unreleased electrifying saxophone cut, rescued from dub plate obscurity by jah fingers.

the debut homemade weapons lp ‘negative space’ is still fresh in peoples playlists after a unanimously acclaimed release, and has gone on to be used as a benchmark for d&b lp’s that exist on the edges of the music’s periphery. combining function and form with equal emphasis, negative space is an lp full of tracks that dj’s play in clubs as opposed to being largely relegated to online mixes. to follow on from the lp, we selected 3 samurai artists to rebuild their favourite tracks from negative space and have combined this with a tidal track vip from homemade weapons made initially for his dj sets. ancestral voices, the untouchables, and sam kdc all turn in unique interpretations.

this is the vinyl format of tom brosseaus third full length for fatcat, after 2006s compilation of early material empty houses are lonely and 2007s critically acclaimed cavalier, which was produced by pj harvey collaborator john parish in one week. mice parades adam pierce and small sails ethan rose co produced and guest performed on posthumous success. ethan roses tracks were produced in portland, oregon, adam pierces in upstate ny. this album marks a noticeable sabbatical from the predominantly vocal and guitar / all acoustic recordings of previous records.

the man, the myth, the legend that is danny soopasoul bennett has returned to spread the good word of funk once again. pushin weight is the storming new instrumental track from our man soopasoul and as usual it doesn t disappoint. rambunctious sax lines and soaking wet wah wah chords ride over the tight drums and grooving congas. there s more breaks than a fat man running a marathon with this floor filler and more exciting still, it s coming out on 7- vinyl for your listening pleasure. the aptly titled b-side and perfect foil to this funky monster is his classic track â&#128,&#147, the fan favourite: brand nu which has had a cheeky little 7- rework to make it, wellâ&#128,¦brand new.

the new joey negro album produced with love is now available across all formats but as the double cd contained 20 tracks it wasnt possible to fit everything onto the 3lp version so the space time ep is a new vinyl ep containing some of these tracks that weren t ready in time to make it on to the vinyl lp. first up is distorting space time, a drawn out dubby, jazzy, spacey track that suggests a heavy arthur russell influence, one that is already a firm favourite of gilles peterson, louie vega and françois kevorkian i recognise is a jazzy boogie track with kaidi taitum on keys full of spacey effects and features sacha williamson on vocals. dancing into the stars features london s best disco party starters horse meat disco on co-production duties and angela johnson on vocals. this is the unreleased extended mix that comes in at over 10 minutes and is a full on dan hartman style modern disco production. completing the package is the black loops remix of wont let go who takes linda clifford s vocals and a killer bassline into deep house territory.

dusky present the latest 17 steps release with the cold heart ep, a four track package that cements their ability to craft a unique range of house and techno soundscapes. having spent last year releasing their outer lp, as well as delivering their second acclaimed essential mix and touring a new live show, the cold heart ep sees the prolific duo return to their roots in textured house and techno with four powerful dj tools. with a nod to vintage new york house through a carefully sourced vocal sample, lead track cold heart is a blissed out, atmospheric house epic that blends crisp percussion, soulful hooks, washing pads and a hypnotic lead organ melody. a favourite from the duos recent dj sets, psychic life coach shuffles with dubby grooves, skippy drums and ethereal vocal cut-ups, before bowed offers a high energy dose of cosmic disco and ravey techno flavours, rounding things off, closing track balfour betty is built around warm, swirling synth textures that meet at the intersection of detroit techno and vintage progressive trance.

arvid whetman has plenty going for him at the moment. as sexazoid he s dropping all kinds of off-kilter machine beats on excellent labels like born free, while as your planet is next he builds on appearances on junk yard connections, waving hands, opal tapes, studio barnhus and klasse to deliver this chirpy four-tracker to acid waxa. from the twee vocals to the playful synths and straight up drums, this is club music crafted for an immediate hit. whetman makes this approach work magnificently though, liberally applying his musical personality to lo-fi deep house and roughshod acid, with heartbreaker being a firm favourite thanks to its fulsome 303 bassline and hooky vocal mantras.

if mega-psychedelic tripping house excursions are your thing then it s entirely possible that derrick carter s sound patrol orchestra may have exactly what you need. no exaggeration. tripping among the stars indeed. the other version of this jam lifted from the sweetened - no lemon lp from 1994 is maybe a little better known, but these mixes right here are worthy of all your attention too! 3 non-stop funk excursions into the cosmos with derrick and co. joining you and guiding you with their cosmic voices. it s hard to pick a favourite as all included are very different beasts yet somehow essential. honestly, this ep kinda shits on most things that you may hear currently and this stuff is from 1997. the still trippin mix is definitely a standout, a free, weaving, 12 minute plus colliding jam that just opens up and evolves real lovely, exactly the kind of record you want to hear around 7am on a smoky dance-floor somewhere. pure after hours perfection. the other mixes are just as potent, with a heavy cowbell laden dc dub mix that s brimming over with live drums and handclaps and a superb bass laden wamdue kids mix that takes off into the stratosphere of deep. basically, this whole record has it covered. literally, it shouldn t leave your bag anytime soon. essential new (old) school chicago gear that just won t quit. thank the heavens we all get the chance to trip again with this beautiful repress! essential. remastered and repressed with the involvement and welcome assistance of the mr.derrick carter, chicago usa.

2 classics on one 12 single, gems excavated from the deepest realms of the tk disco vaults.on side a we have former foxy frontman ishmael ish ledesma with his sublime esoteric disco cut from 1979 called don t stop , a deep, late night diamond of a track that will appeal to the more left-field disco lovers out there. don t stop has long been a favourite with the diggers with it s sweet vocals, synth heavy production and overall cosmic vibe. a beauty of a track indeed and one of tk s lesser known cuts. side b sees fusion guitarist john tropea s 1979 cosmic classic living in the jungle , a long time spin of dj s like daniele baldelli and dj harvey. infusing tropea s rock sensibilities with the throb of the disco dance-floor the track is a low slung, midtempo groover that touches all the right spots. overall, this essential double-header is a must have for all disco heads and left-field dj fiends.

das komplex or marcin to his parents has been steadily putting out incredible music for the last few years, building on an extremely well tailored collection of tracks they have started hitting all sorts of people s radar, no one more so than dj harvey who has been supporting his releases at some of his big shows. a1. under feet - whilst the people of australia are dancing, the people of poland are sleeping. or vice versa...starting off with some lcd fuelled vibes before a psychedelic phasing disco loop appears out of the smoke before twisting the track out in a slightly different direction. a2. w podwodnym pasniku - funky bass, filtered chords and a familiar vocal sample combine for this almost early french house sounding track circa 96. b1. bearded dwarf - very much sounding like prins thomas has been at work here, a big room scandinavian sounding house track (via poland!). big atmospherics, other-worldly vocal samples, lovely guitar snatches and driving piano with the addition of some tribal flute! b2. when - our favourite cut from the ep, cleverly using a herbie hancock sample and layering with disco sounds, vocals and a deep driving bass line to produce his trademark atmospheric, moody house sound. as always pressed on 180gm vinyl. please hunt down and destroy dance floors accordingly. keep sydney open
