as a man well versed in the moves of the old-school, fabio monesi launches his albion imprint with the immaculately executed styles of 623, full of sexy 90s synth notes and crisp, pumping beats. washerman brings a more rugged style on his remix of the tune, dropping in some cheeky and thoroughly familiar samples, while the melody wobbles around an amorphous scale. the peephouse finds monesi reaching back to the soothing organ tones of the dx7, with a gentle and piano-driven throw down that stills carries plenty of heft for the floor. rio padice steps up for another remix of 623 and spreads a strange and nervous shape-shifter of a late-night jam, scattering the vocals like confetti and nudging the drums out of joint on a whim.

in their own words, like a radio-controlled mechanical, electro-mechanical and multifunctional musical instrument, berliner ring build up relentless and relentlessly different grooves in a characteristically non-direct way. as if playing around without focus they layer their tracks and slowly position them into form. the tracks featured here were originally released on cd on the art yard label. melodies are fragmented, often even sparse, the groove never stops, but does so with intervals and while changing focus. berliner ring references similar bands in the krautrock and post-rock genre, but it s subtlety, the originality of their self-built instruments and their songs that shift from downright groovy to more atmospheric explorations of ambience and texture guarantee them a unique voice and perspective. essential stuff.

total control dislocate expectations with this inaugural home loan records 12 inch. not the charged up paranoid vox/guitar/drums combo that we have become accustomed to through their visceral live shows - instead men with machines producing pensive proto-tech experiments and tense industrial wave. includes the original version of carpet rash which was re-recorded in full band mode for henge beat, and two previously unreleased immersive rhythm tracks formed through collaboration between guitarist mikey young and drummer james vinciguerra. vinciguerra would fire deranged beats down the hole while young would jam over them, watching waves in a trance from his perch at phillip island. on the flip we find two reconstructions from home loan manager michael ozone. carpet rash receives the club re-contextualisation with ozone fully utilising its penetrating synth hook, while new age hop climbs the arabic scale.

edux return from a winter hibernation and summer of partying with some more essential wax. machete savane is their latest signing, aka studio supremo saul richards & andy bainbridge, an integral part on well respected and notoriously raucous party people bad passion andy has perfectly distilled what drives the bad passion dancefloor in the excellent >elysian fields<, and who better to put a unique stamp on the track than their main resident guest felix dickinson. he takes the track into bolder, dubbed out and altogether more acid house territory, while keeping the live elements to the fore. finally mid op amps up the drum machinery, and lays out another corking balearic with balls workout. quality stuff as always.

deep house emporium ornate music cast their worldly gaze to the far east, calling on japanese producer sai, a graduate of agness sthlm audio imprint, for a killer four track ep entitled bedroom eyes. the sultry, suggestive nature of the title is translated into the tunes on offer, with opening cut >2am< offering the most subtle of acid lines alongside piano flourishes and a spoken word vocal snippet. better still is the afterhours bump of >blue lingerie<, while >mr< toughens things up on the flip with a analogue grit and cooing vox. the 12 inch is rounded off with another original cut in >another myself<, which is dripping in classic motor city house vibes with gently oscillating bass tones reaching deep down inside.

often overlooked in american techno history are the weird and wonderful flavours to have emanated from the mid-west over the years. no two finer exponents have there been than minnesotas paul birken and freddy fresh. their contributions date back to the early nineties when freddy was exploring the possibilities of extreme techno (via labels like labworks, experimental and his own analog) - an activity that paul took up a while later after debuting on woody mcbrides renegade communique label in 1996. teaming up for the first of two collaborations on this 12 inch, paul and freddy open with >the fate of thirty eight< - a belting slab of analogue techno, where machines shriek and squawk like possessed animals on the loose.

after a small hiatus matthias vogt and c-rock finally got back together in the studio to present another motorcitysoul masterpiece and convincing follow-up to last years carry on single. the song features conspicuous vocals by the drumming singer-songwriter phil fill making it an eager and exhilarating confession to the playground love. the remixes of lithuanian standout producer mario basanov contribute pure dancefloor magic. while the vocal remake offers a sentimental 80s disco feast, the remix version is riding his distinctive vilnius deep house vibe. a promising foretaste to basanovs upcopming full length album journey.

nice price deal !!! aÑa / henning baer / norman nodge / musk.... no one knows exactly how, or why it happened. we can only postulate. perhaps it was rogue hydrogen atoms causing havoc again, or a particularly voracious wave of em radiation hell bent on finding a good time. the point is, (in those days) such lude behavior was simply unacceptable: aÑa had become excited, too much so for the solar stiffs that swirled about her. and that system of hers—always buzzing around, refusing to share anything—it had to go. so both were exiled from that collision patch they called home, leaving aÑa and her system to wander the cosmos. some years passed. aÑa grew a little, but mostly she practiced her basswalk—not this girly swooshy thing with your hips, but a real bolshy bovver boot stomp. after a while she got pretty good at it, she wanted to show her friends. maybe theyd like to basswalk too. well, they couldnt get enough of it—but no one did it quite like aÑa. henning baers had a bit more groove to it and this whole new tweaky hat element. norman nodge kept his pretty punchy, but all that time spent in berghain had turned his basswalk into a bit of a skulk. as for musk, the boys inverted the whole thing of course—turned a disco trick, shifting the march down into more of a slinky house glide. aÑa liked them all so much—and it was time isolated system stopped being such a separatist—she decided to gather them all together to make basswalker part i. now you can basswalk too

with influences ranging from breakcore and jungle to techno and electronica, their sound is just as far-reaching with organic sample-based productions and synthetic, processed electronic beats. lakkers torann ep, their second release for blueprint, kick-starts with the dappling beats of summer rains, before moving onto the more experimental mustard crying. ciar takes us back to the dancefloor with ominous undertones, while static & amp is a simple but effective exercise. finally the diminutive but meticulous one note caps the ep off in fine lakker style.

chairlift present takes on several cuts from acclaimed second album >something< by some of their favorite producers, showcasing how their songs can easily be adapted for the club. appropriately titled the 6.15amix, spanish equipo fantástico john talabot and pional turn >i belong in your arms< into a balearica-infused club-closer. a nifty piano line and seductive rhythm take the song on a late night (or rather early morning) trip to the beach, while carolines voice is being warped into something from outer space. photek takes the same track to a whole different place with his powerful jungle interpretation. martyn respects both the pace and rhythm of sidewalk safari, yet exchanges the clean production for a rather more cosmic beat, incorporating many of his signature touches to compliment the sinister >i m gonna hunt you down< lyric. dan careys dub mix of >sidewalk safari< shows a more playful side, while arguably the most intriguing remix of the package is the fields take on >met before<, recalling his early work it is so warped and layered you may struggle to imagine the original minus the smallest of hints.
