thule s dark doppelganger ae recordings was revived last year with the excellent freyja ep by nonnimal, and now the saga continues with this devastatingly on-point release from cold. much like the vibe on thule, the music on thule continues to channel the mood of the icy tundra into refined, modern club tracks, but there s definitely a more sinister intent at work in these tracks from cold. -aerials- is a nightmarish chugger loaded with eerie sonics, while -phased out- lays down some fine dubby processing over a bed of chilly chord pulses. -exiles- is a standout track thanks to its crafty groove, coming on a little more housey than its counterparts but still heavier than the average thule jam.

with the seventh vinyl release evod music welcomes kwartz, well-knowed spanish producer who released on label like pole group and mord. the release is splitted with evod, two tracks for side. the two tracks by kwartz are noisy, warm, with turbulent grooves, both tunes are overwhelming, with twists of low frequencies sequences and brilliant noises/rhythmics. evod s tracks are a true compromise between old school and modern sonorities, thanks to the raw/analog warm accompanied by abstract and synthetic sounds.

frigio records is going back in time for its latest release, some 38 years into the past. back then a young newcastle man was experimenting with early electronic instruments and synths. mick clarke is his name and nearly forty years later he is still at it. two tracks have been borrowed from clarke s seminal games lp, each given a bit of modern boot polish from minimalrome s heinrich dressel and frigio father juanpablo.

-walls of the night- is a blissed out work of ambient prog rock abstraction. think rumbling horror score and soaring guitar strings. heinrich dressel offers a giallo dipped remix. the building bars of the original are maintained, beats added for ballast and darkened organ keys for a remake etched with murderous intent. the flip is introduced by the dreamy -time is now.- slender synthlines intertwine with gentle strings in a cerebral work. juanpablo tweaks the 1979 material. syrupy acid lines swim in meandering currents, a thick beat keeping time in murky waters of modulations and undulations.

south africas escapism refuge returns to londons smokin sessions with the on the fence ep, following his previous effort for the label the highly acclaimed vol. 31. a-side and title track on the fence is an understated and subtle effort, carrying with it an introspective and moody set of harmonies and chord progressions. its a quietly uplifting start to the ep, and the tracks lead melody will remain stuck in your head for days. the b1, almost eight does things differently by incorporating elements of classic ruff sqwad-era grime with an updated and crisp set of modern day production techniques. the ep’s last track, dust, uses a deep and propulsive bass line, which is augmented by escapisms now signature use of fleeting vocal samples. its a powerful ending to a heavyweight and emotionally-charged ep from escapism refuge. escapism refuges previous efforts have gained impressive dj support from across the scene, from figures such as compa (deep medi), synkro, gilles peterson, lefto, joe kay (soulection), don letts, tim parker, n- type, phaeleh and many more.

brian ellis known for his collaborations with legends egyptian lover, howard johnson also the modern funk contemporaries like zackey force funk and xl middleton, “mirror/mirror” showcases brian’s handling of all instruments, vocals, mixing and production. drawing from classic 70s west coast aor to obscure french library music and early 80s funk presenting a timeless contemporary sound. combining analog synths (oberheim ob8, minimoog model d, yamaha dx7, and more), live guitar, intricate drumming, smooth vocals with excellent songwriting have come together like never before. sure to be a classic record in the years to come.

ralphi rosario is a pioneer of house music, kicking off an influential dj career in chicago when he was still in high school. the remixes and productions that followed have garnered him #1 billboard dance chart hits as well as more than 20 well-respected years spinning records. he’s an artist who represents the ethos of glitterbox recordings, with decades of quality house music history woven into every beat. also in line with the spirit of the label, ‘wanna give it up’ is a classic track given some very tasteful modern updates, from dr packer and jamie 3:26. the familiar ‘légo’s dub’ from the original release is present and correct, alongside a suitably funked-up version from disco edits maestro dr packer. finally, fellow chicagoan jamie 3:26 amps the party up a further notch with some irresistible clinking percussion and a lazy-cool groove.

here comes argoman, the antihero of disco music. inspired by the 1960s b movie super hero argoman, the name literally means lazy man, however its also a combination of three italian producers names, who started the project about one year ago. the track chimicalissimo merges the vibrant rhythms of disco with the emotional approach of modern electronic music. its a peak-time dancefloor banger completely produced with analog synths and drum machines. the tune is a proper voyage between syncopated rhythms and heavy basslines soaked with synth melodies that often recall idm progressions. the dub version gives more space to a melancholic piano melody that culminates through analog arpeggios to an unstoppable build. black spuma remix finally turns the track into a slow burning disco monster.

with fbnm now celebrating their fifth year of operation, lorenzo has marked the occasion by assembling his biggest project to date – an impeccably curated collection of obscure italian production music circa 1974 - 1985. the project, nearly a year in the making, has been very close to lorenzo s heart – beginning unexpectedly in the record fairs of buenos aires and leading him on several trips to rome and milan, tracking down the original musicians and licensors.

khidja are back on malka tuti and this combo cannot and will not dissappoint. after their successful debut on john talabot s hiverndiscs, khidja continue their current direction of leftfield-club music exploration, this time in the form of microb, a track that is a wolrd of its own, fusioning heavy industrial vibes with their own take of -worldly music- to create this peak time dancefloor bonanza. on the flip side salon des amateurs tolouse low trax delievers two takes on the original track, stripped down and turned upside down, adding those massive vocals. these takes are hypnotic as they are groovey and they complete a unique package for the modern dance floor explorers.

oberst & buchner are next up on freeride millenium and the two bavaria born, vienna based producers deliver an ep that offers their interpretation of what modern summer togetherness sounds like. the talented pair started making music together aged 15 and aim to cook up emotionally driven jams. they do so on labels like heimlich, underyourskin records, schönbrunner perlen, lokd, and always get the juices going, as they do once again here. beginning with the brilliant greg we dive into a breakbeat bath of summery chords as playful claves dance on the horizon. it is a melodically rich track with spiritual feelings that really bliss you out. on the moodier emile night time arrives and warm chords mix with jangling, organic glass and percussive tinkles that reflect rays of light. it s a perfectly jazzy and loose number that really suspends you in a rueful place. last but not least, embrace is a fluid intergalactic convention with sparse drum kicks weighed down by sombre synths. a skittish, dubstep style groove then comes in and elevates the track with gentle guitar licks and slithering synths adding colour, and overall it has the same zoned out feel as a thousand-yard stare. this is a brilliant mood ep that mixes up the synthetic with the organic, creating some fascinating grooves as a result. the release once again features original artwork from the ever talented daniel rajcsanyi. thanks for purchasing a real copy!

timothy j. fairplay is revisiting hoga nord rekords to release the 12inch ep mindfighter: photosensitive electronic music from one of the pillars of the modern meaningful dance music scene. together with scott frasier, t.j.f. is running the record label crimes of the future and he is also known as one half of the asphodells together with andrew weatherall. this is his second release on hoga nord rekords and his first ep on the label.

this is the fifth release on eye teeth, the techno sublabel of interdimensional transmissions, by it compatriot alstadt echo. alstadt echo effortlessly blends the avant garde with industrial techno influences into his own deeply austere sound, with grainy textures contrasting perfectly against his broken beat structures. the influences are clear, he has even been honored by one - with multiple tunes included on regis the boys are here mix tape. alstadt echo also runs his own detroit imprint known as modern cathedrals, an ode to the concept of cathedrals of sound, the place where this music belongs.

ed davenport continues his full-spectrum techno experiments as inland with an elegant new ep on counterchange entitled coriolis. the title track coriolis is a moody 10 minute voyage with a morphing synth array at its core - bright, detuned stabs are layered upon tough rhythmic foundations. the jagged metallic lead builds, unearthing harmonic bleep accents and syncopated fx swells, before folding in on itself leaving the effective tribal drum section to ride on. d10d3 plows forward with an urgent staccato sequence, segueing into italo-horror filter sweeps and noise-laden moments of drama. finally tsereteli is a more reduced modern dub study, continuing ed s long running fascination with tranced-out time stretching and after-hours vibes. the 9th release on the label, the record features cover art by uk artist guy archard and is pressed on 180g vinyl.
