having discovered electronic music at the end of the 90’s, thomass grew up going to raves where trance was one of the main styles played at this massive partys. the influence it had on him was planted deeply into his dna and this ep is the interpretation he has these days of the genre. he moved on to different pastures soon after but the style was already in him. thomass now takes the old fashioned elements he still likes and takes them to new directions. fueled by gated chords, dreamy arpeggios, trippy vocals and percussions this tracks are destined to take you back into the past and bring you right back to the present. forget what you learned. trance not trance.
one of the founding fathers of chicago house, himself a grandson to a dj and frequently alongside other greats such as ron hardy on the decks, gene hunt summons a 3-tracker for the midnight shift label. true house and techno direct from the source and in his own words, a rather ‘jungly’ take of it due to the tracks’ chaotic percussion. ‘feeling it’ takes you back to the original old school, with all the classic elements in place, it’s a house lover’s wet dream, 30 years after the fact. spector twists things up while keeping that pumping jacking groove a perfect intersection between then and now.scatter punches through the noise like a clarion call to arms - where are all our jacks and jackies at report to the dancefloor, please.
a four-track acid ep by veteran producer warlock, out on kalbata s brush & broom label. ex-amount of jaw-grind action from the london underground legend. violent rays and swearings are both straight-up warehouse workouts, comfortably placed next to reflective after-hour gushers run dc and cave tone. once again, warlock demonstrates stunning crisp production, touched by old-school heritage, dating back to pre-94 legislation times. essential.
in quick succession, tropical disco return with their tenth outing, a fluid, well sketched out and fiery ensemble of tracks, including newcomers and old friends.
presented for the record store day 2019, now officially in the stores. first collaboration on wax for superluminal & discarded gems. most likely an ensign which perfectly merge what an experience has been so far in berlin at the superluminal x discarded gems event series. it evolves radically with four different takes, exploring through idm, breakbeat, deep house approaches, giving justice to the old and modern sound.

* seasoned shogun duo technimatic are proud to celebrate 10 years working together with the release of their 3rd studio lp ‘through the hours’. born of time spent behind the boards, on the decks and travelling the world honing their craft, this is their most profound work to date. their first single ‘sometimes’, ‘goodbye kiss’ and ‘all our yesterdays’ are loaded with floor filling nostalgia while the tempo changes of ‘recurring dream’ and stand out ‘resolution’ are thrilling explorations away from the pair’s trademark liquid sound. technimatic fans will rejoice at the sight of previous collaborators appearing. jono mccleery’s devastating ability shines on ‘the nightfall’, while ‘weightless’ ft lucy kitchen is vintage, sublime drum and bass. matt wilson also joins the project as ‘holding on’ finds its feet firmly on the dance floor revealing a fresh side to their production skills. just looking at the three vocal tracks highlights the passage of time in the technimatic sound, seamlessly manoeuvring from classic to current. the grit and swagger of ‘true believer’ matched with the hypnotic lull of ‘let it fall’ give the album a conscious edge to satisfy all tastes. ‘through the hours’ moves harmoniously through sonic timelines appealing to both new and old school heads simultaneously. lastly and most importantly, the music is fantastic. the technimatic sound is as rustic as it is contemporary and after some time away, it’s clearly well worth the wait.
this classic danny styles track was originally released on lucky spin recordings and the masters have long been lost. danny has managed to find the original disks and has painstakingly recreated the original using those old akai s1000 & atari disks with a borrowed atari 1040ste and akai s1100 (thank to peter argyle for this!). there was also a previously unreleased mix of life is a roll on the disks which has also been brought back to life and can now be heard for the first time in 25 years.
