placed under the media spotlights in 2011 thanks to their joyful and loony indie pop, concrete knives went on to sign with the legendary uk imprint bella union (beach house, fleet foxes, lift to experience, etc.). their first album be your own king was successfully released the following year, selling more than 7000 copies in france alone and sending the group of friends on the road to play more than 150 live dates all over europe. quiet for the past six years and after recording with danish producer andreas pallisgaard (trentemøller, goat, pinkunoizu), the band is set to return with a much awaited second effort on the french label vietnam (h-burns, chevalrex pharaon de winter).
whirling hall of knives is a collaboration between trensmat founders magnetize and the last sound. harsh smouldering circuits and eruptions of panicky white noise have a profoundly unsettling quality, a sense of gnawing paranoia but interspersed with moments of almost euphoric epiphany, as if in the grip of an unshakeable 4am psychosis a growing sense that the door will be kicked in at any second and the world outside will come pouring in. psyche electronics of a particularly greasy and grime-flecked hue... the remix comes courtesy of downwards duo, talker. the american duo of karl meier and jon krohn (a.k.a stave) turn in a heavyweight version of vacuulum on the flip...
the first whok 12inch outside of trensmat, straddles the line between death techno and krautrock, features 11 minute slow-grinding ancient methods remix
das fünfte album des uk-indie-rock trios gleicht einem befreiungsschlag: schöne und trotzdem unkonventionelle songs treffen auf improvisationen und experimente.
over the past few years orchestral instrumental music from outside the classical establishment has become huge, and neil leiter and margaret hermant of the belgian echo collective have witnessed the evolution and extraordinary rise of this movement right up close. they ve worked with some of the most important players, including stars of the lid, dustin o’halloran and adam wiltze’s a winged victory for the sullen and o’halloran’s solo projects, as well as jóhann jóhannsson. and though the echo collective members themselves very much do come from within the classical music establishment, they don t care which side of the fence they are seen to be on.
ombra international can save you with the fury and lust. bordeaux cold-wave band, bagarre perdue kick things off with cowboy and the psychedelic spaniard, sutja gutierrez closes with a tripped out vocal track. the b-side goes more for the dance floor with french-londonite, mondowski and a post-punk slow wave song ties it all together from st. petersburg russias, seven knives.
repressed on audiophile quality, 180 gram double vinyl. this second helping from the sessions that produced the preceding kid a will probably strike close listeners as a bit more structured, though it ll be difficult to determine whether thats simply because the peregrinations of the last album have prepared them for the trips to the outer limits taken here. those expecting a u2 like return to tuneful, anthemic guitar rock will have their hopes dashed upon a rock of colourful electronic experimentation and moody, studio enhanced madness.
thousand knives & plastic bamboo by the legendary ryuichi sakamoto are taken from the incredible better days label catalog. both killer slices of 80ties japanese electronic music. latest addition to the rh store japan 7inch series. recommended!

the fifth instalment of get physicals body language mix series comes courtesy of chateau flight, aka gilbert cohen and nicolas chaix. including exclusive remixes and tracks from fox n wolf, henrik schwarz and chateau flight themselves. nicolas and gilbert first joined forces in 1996, and over the last years they ve made quite a name for themselves as producers and remixers, not to mention djs and live performers.
“drugstore phones” is a double lp from russian wizard piper spray. this enigmatic producer is a hidden gem of russian electronic underground. the album is taking you on an unexpected trip in many ways - it’s hard to define the genre but one can feel the author’s willingness to experiment and explore new sounds. this sonic documentary of piper’s world is breathing and constantly changing, though it’s the most balanced and mature work of the author. a spectacular opener for gost zvuk’s gatefold lp series.
dekmantel proudly presents the return of vedomir to their imprint – with nothing less than a full length album this time!
mister karpenko was responsible for one of the most in demand dekmantel releases to date (picture of you ep), so this artist album is the next inevitable step. the ukraine-based producer shows he is getting more mature with every release, delivering a comprehensive artist album that crosses over genres easily.
ranging from downtempo, almost jazz-like slowburners to haunting chicago house with a true analog feel, and from dark electro stuff, to the beautiful ambient soundscape: this record is a piece of stunning musical versatility.
wonderful 1970s p.c.p inspired 20 track. compilation featuring a highly charged mix of psych funk, prog, afro, glam, cosmic, rock and disco. some very rare pieces on here such as the cosmic reggae inspired 360 degrees, the groovy psych prog of the creative craniums and the raw prototype psych funk of kid rock (not that one). others will be better known to lovers of a more progressive dancefloor such as soundforce and diabolic man which has long been a big spin for dj harvey and lovefingers alike.
