the fourth release of another earth, a small dutch vinyl only label with limited 300 pressings, has finally arrived. the a side is proper techno created by dave simon. a1 in acid we trust is a peak time acid techno track and a2 path of ability has a warm detroit feel. the b side by anders ilar together with john h is more obscure. deep weird acid techno that seems to come from another planet.

the second ep of samuel rohrer’s range of regularity album presents two more striking reinterprations. burnt friedman’s own dramatic interpre-tation of “microcosmoism” pairs up his consciousness of deep bass and analog inventiveness with rohrer’s continually transforming sound ob-jects, making for a flowing and wordless narrative that simply dares listen-ers to stop paying attention. feeling more like a collaboration in “real time” than a remix proper, friedman brings his characteristic ‘mad scientist’ wit to the proceedings and delivers an energetic piece that simply glows in the dark.

the fifth modern cathedrals release by altstadt echo seeks to exhume genuine, complex, and often contradictory human emotion from dead samples and broken beat structures. throughout the 1905 ep, the artist crafts melodies that embody a tension between nostalgia and frustration, supported by carefully textured and relatively functional percussion. the remix of dry despair by abdulla rashim (ar) strips the original of its lofty chords, instead pursuing a focused and bone-dry experimental techno approach. in contrast, the remix by stave combines elements of the original’s drifting atmosphere with violent industrial percussion.

coming hot on the heels of samuel rohrer’s range of regularity album are two eps of striking reinterpretations. these new remixes provide an intriguing parallax view of the original tracks, using the percussive eclecticism of the parent lp as a starting point from which to journey into sonically vibrant, feature rich territories. the production specialists on the first ep include ricardo villalobos and vilod, the collaborative duo with max loderbauer. villalobos, has already formed a strong working relationship with rohrer’s am- biq trio, lends his talents to both of these new eps.

for the first solo ep on horror boogie, fedka the irritant steps up, after his outstanding track on horror boogie 01. fedka the irritant is probably best known as the trombonist in the excellent band pest (ninja tune), alongside ben pest (panic bridge, victim, bonus round). he is also a seriously original and versatile producer in his own right. he has released on panic bridge, alongside the other pest members and his trombone techno live sets are something to behold. here, he drops four varied tracks, starting with the behemoth >words for friends<. a heavy slice of wonky techno, with a big kick and rasping synth. next up is one uncertain eyebrow. a building, funky, fuzzy acid-laced track that drops harder and harder as it goes on. on side b, calypso-flavoured, jazzed up >stick it< progresses on to a become a warbling bass effort with a smooth hip-hop vocal. last but not least, is >you only die once<, another funk-laden monster, with a killer slap bass line.
