longevity is promised to no one. we literally live to die, and even great masters perish without saying what they needed to say while they’re among the breathing. most of us leave this earth too full, and the grim reality is artistic careers are usually short-lived. chicago footwork godfather rp boo has fought long and hard to evacuate his mind of all he can throughout his long career, spanning over 30 years since cutting his teeth djing for the legendary house-o-matics.

rp boo returns with ‘the ultimate rp boo’, showing off six brand new cuts that mix a range of styles with his vivid use of samples and improvised drum programming.

“footwork”—the very word indicates a movement of the feet that is “work” (as in an effort to achieve). its joyous social party nature sits within a lineage of african american history that includes the infamous soul train dance tunnel and hip hop dance circles. however, as footwork continues to become more popular, we should not forget that at its essence it is a highly evolved battle form. this is the central theme one feels listening to the stunning “fingers, bank pads & shoe prints,” the second album from rp boo, the man credited with inventing the footwork genre with a 1997 track “baby come on” (recently re-released on the planet mu ep “classics vol. 1”).

planet mu are honoured to be invited to look back through rp boos archives and present the cornerstones of his style, which would emerge from chicagos ghetto house in the late nineties and develop into the genre of footwork.

planet mu prŠsentiert die erste musiksammlung aus der chicagoer >footwork<-szene. footwork ist hyperrhythmische, abstrakte tanzmusik, die sich bei 160bpm einpendelt und meist aus samplestuecken und phrasen bestehen, die in repetitive rhythmen und formen gedreht werden, waehrend synkopierte strukturen aus dem drumcomputer auf fette sub-basslinien treffen. bisher gibt es nur einige 12s und selbstgestaltete mix cds, die im underground kursieren.
